Henry Jay MacMillan was a Wilmington artist who served in the US Army during World War II. While overseas with the 62nd Engineer Topographic Company, MacMillan painted scenes of war-torn Europe and the activities of the Army. He also provided detailed paintings of hedgerows in Normandy, France, that helped the Allied forces navigate the difficult terrain. More than 50 of MacMillan’s wartime paintings and illustrations are on exhibit, offering a look into a local artist’s experience as a soldier.
