New Hanover County Local Emergency Planning Committee

The New Hanover County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC)  brings together private sector and industry partners to support development and review of emergency action plans and provide information about chemicals in the community to citizens.  Our LEPC is a part of the commitment to the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA) effort to support planning for chemical emergencies and ensuring the public is aware of the storage and use of chemicals in our community. Meetings

The New Hanover County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) meets at 11:00am on the 2nd Wednesday of the odd numbered months at the New Hanover County Government Center located at 230 Government Center Dr, Wilmington, NC 28403. A link to participate via Microsoft Teams can be requested by contacting the NHC Emergency Management office at 910-798-6900.

Overview

The mission of the New Hanover County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) is to effectively plan for emergencies involving hazardous materials. The LEPC is responsible for:

  • SARA Title III environmental compliance
  • HAZMAT training and exercises
  • Site-specific chemical planning programs
  • Coordination of chemical information to emergency responders
  • Maintenance of the county-wide HAZMAT Incident Management Plan

The public is invited to attend LEPC meetings, held bimonthly via Teams. Email Teresa Smith to attend virtually.
