Public Notice: City of Wilmington/New Hanover County Joint Subcommittee to meet on December 6

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – Notice is hereby given that the City of Wilmington/New Hanover County Joint Subcommittee (Elected Officials) and Staff Committee on Opioid Settlement Proceeds will meet on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at 10 a.m. in the City of Wilmington – City Attorney’s Conference Room (2nd Floor) at 305 Chestnut Street, Wilmington, NC.

As outlined in the Opioid Settlement Interlocal Agreement between New Hanover County and the City of Wilmington, a joint subcommittee of elected officials has been established, which includes two Commissioners appointed by the Board of Commissioners chair and one City Council member appointed by the mayor. Currently, the elected officials on the subcommittee are Commissioners Deb Hays and Bill Rivenbark and City Council member Luke Waddell. In addition, the staff committee consists of the county and city managers, attorneys, finance officers, and budget officers.

This subcommittee will be responsible for advancing funding recommendations and opportunities to both the Board of Commissioners and City Council, and then funding determinations and allocations will be made through the budget process each year.

The work of this subcommittee is guided by the county’s Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders Strategy which was adopted by the Board of Commissioners in September.
