Senior Resource Center hosting Health and Resource Fair on May 17

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC – In celebration of Older Americans Month, the New Hanover County Senior Resource Center will host more than 40 vendors specifically focused on the health and well-being of adults 55 and over at a Health and Resource Fair on Wednesday, May 17.

The fair will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Senior Resource Center (2222 S. College Rd). Attendees will be able to collect health-related information from a variety of sources within New Hanover County, as well as other local and state organizations. There will be free health screenings, presentations, cooking and exercise demos, and chances to win raffle prizes. This event is free and open to the public.

“Healthy aging is a process that allows you to be engaged in your community, remain active, and continue to explore diverse experiences and services,” said Senior Resource Center Director Amber Smith. “There are no limitations on what someone can do as they age and that is what this event and celebratory month highlight for our residents. The Senior Resource Center is proud to offer our residents activities year-round that support healthy lifestyles for older adults.”

Established in 1963, Older Americans Month is celebrated in May. The annual event acknowledges the contributions and achievements of older Americans, highlights important trends, and works to strengthen the national commitment to honoring older citizens. This year’s theme, Aging Unbound, encourages communities to offer opportunities, like the fair, highlighting a wide range of aging experiences and promoting the importance of enjoying independence and fulfillment on the aging path.
