NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC - Starting February 16, members of the community looking to get tested for COVID-19 will be able to receive this service, free of charge, at the New Hanover County Health and Human Services Pandemic Operations Center (1507 Greenfield Street) on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Appointments for a rapid test can be made online. The HHS Pandemic Operations Center will be offering testing from 10 am to 2 pm on Wednesdays and 9 am to noon on Fridays. Individuals receiving a test will have to wait 20 minutes on-site to receive their results. No ID, proof of insurance, or specific documents are required and tests will be performed based on supply availability. If you need assistance making an appointment, you can call the Coronavirus Call Center at 910-798-6800.
"The Pandemic Operations Team is proud to offer this service to our community which will allow residents to make informed decisions about their own health and what they need to do to protect others," said Pandemic Operations Manager Jon Campbell. "We know it can be hard to find a test, either with a medical provider or one you take at home. Our goal is to relieve some of the pressure on our local medical community in terms of testing needs and provide an easily accessible and free site for residents to be tested if they are symptomatic, have been a close contact or are just being proactive ahead of a family gathering. Testing is an important tool in our continued work to combat this virus and help protect our community."
- While testing will be offered on Wednesday and Friday, residents who need a COVID vaccine or booster can sign-up at TakeMyShotNC.gov for appointments at the HHS Pandemic Operations Center starting on Monday, February 14. Vaccines and boosters are the best way individuals can protect themselves from severe illness and hospitalization from COVID-19. Vaccine appointments will be available during the following days and times:
- Mondays from 9 am to 5 pm.
- Tuesdays from 9 am to 6 pm.
- Thursdays from 9 am to 6 pm.
- Fridays from 1 to 5 pm.
The Pandemic Operations Center will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized during and after both testing and vaccine distribution to ensure the safety of staff and community members coming to the facility.
As a reminder, the Independence Mall vaccine clinic has ceased operations and COVID vaccines will no longer be available at the HHS health clinic after the close of business on Friday, February 11.
