WILMINGTON, N.C. – Teachers, homeschool educators, and youth group leaders – are you looking for quality professional development experiences this fall? Cape Fear Museum is pleased to offer free educator workshops designed to jumpstart your creativity and inspire your students.
Cape Fear Museum will offer a Project Learning Tree (PLT) workshop on September 25, 2015 from1:30 to 8:00 p.m. This award-winning environmental education program is designed for teachers and informal educators working with students in pre-kindergarten through grade eight. Upon completion of the workshop, educators will receive a free 400-page PLT activity guide full of interdisciplinary instructional activities that use the forest as a window into natural and human-made environments. Educators will engage in hands-on PLT activities, gain confidence in nature-based teaching, and learn how to use PLT activities to help their students develop creativity, flexibility, and higher-order thinking skills. Teachers will spend half of the workshop in the new Museum Park—an outdoor learning space that interprets how people, land, and water have intersected throughout history in the Lower Cape Fear region.
Completion of six hours is required for CEU credits and to receive the PLT activity guide. Teachers may choose to complete three hours on September 25, 2015 and three hours on February 19, 2016 or complete the entire workshop either day. Project Learning Tree is also one of the required workshops for individuals working toward their North Carolina Environmental Education Certification. Space is limited to 25; participants must pre-register by September 18 by calling 910-798-4362.
