WILMINGTON, N.C. – In honor of Women’s History Month in March, Cape Fear Museum is offering special behind the scenes tours – The Mystery of Women’s History. Take an intimate historical and artifactual tour with Museum Historian Jan Davidson and Museum Curator Barbara Rowe as they showcase the often-ignored role of women in the Lower Cape Fear’s history.
Jan Davidson will tell stories of women’s experiences in our region. Learn about a diverse group of women including World War I Army nurse Rachel Loman, Augusta Mosely Cooper, the first black woman to run for city council, and tennis star Althea Gibson. Then get a chance to look at rarely-seen objects in the Museum’s collection, as Barbara Rowe provides access to items such as Gibson’s Wimbledon racquet and Loman’s Army uniform.
